Technologies

The following technologies are utilised by the GTA:

Mobile Web

The GTA more specifically utilises XHTML to provide Mobile Web content to cell phones.

Google Android

The Android platform is a result of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) which currently consists of 46 members, which include Google, Motorola, Samsung, Intel, LG, NVidia, HTC and T-Mobile. The Android platform is still in its infancy, but is gaining popularity and support on a global scale. The Android platform enables the development of rich and tightly integrated software solutions on any Android device.

J2ME

The Java Micro-edition Platform 2 is a technology developed and implemented by Sun Microsystems. It is currently one of the most widely implemented cell phone technologies and provides rich and complex software solutions on cell phones. Popular examples of this technology are MXIT and many cell phone games.

Microsoft .NET 3.5

The GTA utilises the Microsoft .NET 3.5 Framework to develop all its residing server software. The GTA also utilises the Windows Communications Foundation (WCF) technology to enforce robustness and the concept of distributed systems. The .NET Framework enables the GTA architecture to communicate with external solutions or systems (if so deemed necessary by the client) via XML, SOAP, Web Services, HTTP, TCP/IP, etc.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005+

The GTA is tightly integrated with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 platform and is primarily used for data operations and logging.

Future Technologies:

Gerard Technologies are currently investigating two additional cell phone platforms to be integrated into the GTA.
  • .NET Compact Framework

Microsoft’s .NET Compact Framework - .NET CF - is a subset of the Microsoft .NET Framework ad provides developers an array of rich libraries and functionality. The .NET CF is only supported by devices that run the Windows Mobile operating system and is therefore limited in terms of scalability. Due to the increasing popularity of the .NET CF, Gerard Technologies is currently investigating the opportunity to integrate Microsoft .NET Compact Framework into the GTA.
